Cant Decide on PSU...

I need a psu to power my system that will soon have a high end dx10 card in it. I will also add a watercooling system and maybe some more hdd's, a burner, and a front LCD Display. Im thinking 750-850 watts should be enough even when I add MORE parts. I Looked at a few of them, posted on some other forums and have come here to try and make a final descision....

This PSU needs to be modular, as quiet as possible, and enough power for future upgrades.

That one looks perfect...but the fan is a bit loud for my taste...runs around 40dba at full speed. Everything else about that psu is perfect I would say...even the price 😉



Maybe I can replace the fan with one of these fans. I figure as long as its rated for around 80cfm..the psu should not overheat.

 
Seasonic makes a 700 Watt modular power supply that is supposed to be fairly quiet. I'm not sure if that's beefy enough for you or not.
 
you gotta be kidding me......please explain.

I have a crapy Ultra PSU rigth now and the fans are starting to make A LOT if noice (sleeve bearing). Its 600watts. That would be nice if I didnt need more than that. But I went to some PSU calculator website and it told me I needed more than 600
 
Definitely the Silverstone 750. Good, stable PSU, modular... Review should be upcoming on jonny guru's site. And the fan is only going to be loud when you start putting a heavy load on it. In which case, your machine isn't going to be quiet anyway, and the 40db noise won't be noticed all that much...
 
You probably don't need an 850W $300 PSU for that system... The Silverstone would work fine and actually has more amperage available on the +12V rails than the enermax (72 vs 68 listed). Might also see if you can find a good deal on a Thermaltake Toughpower, it's got the specs you want and might be available for a bit less, and they are VERY highly reviewed by Jonny G among others.

* Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700
* NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI based motherboard
* 2x1GB PC2-6400
* NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX
* PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XTX
* Western Digital Raptor 150

The system above (8800GTX) drew 321 watts AC under load. Take away 20% of that for the conversion to DC and you under 300 watts for the whole system.

A 500 watt M12 would will have you covered easily.
 
alright silverstone ordered. It probably wont be too loud since my rig wont take it to full load. TY for all the advice
 
Are the PC Silencer cables long enough for the antec p180?

Edit: NM, guy on newegg said that he had to sodder on 6 inches onto the 12v rail, blar.
 
if you want a modular then go for seasonic m12 series.

i truly love my seasonic s12 series (non-modular) and it's relatively quiet. can't beat this one.

I already recommended the 700W M-12 from Seasonic but the OP either ignored me or was unimpressed. He went for the Silverstone unit instead. Go figure.

it was out of stock at newegg and it comes be default with two pcie connectors that are not modular.
