Im putting together a new system (1.6a on p4b266-c), and am trying to decide on a video card.
Im not a big pc gamer, so I dont want to drop 170+ on the geforce4 4200..
and the geforce 3 ti200 seems like the obvious answer. especially since I plan to overclock the card

looking around.. I see that I can pick up a visiontek Xtasy 6564 for 94.50, which is about what Im looking to spend.
but the gainward/cardexpert seems to be the one most people suggest, although it sells at 125.00+
is this card really worth the extra $30?

is there any reason why the gainward/cardexpert would be more overclockable then the vision tek?

The GeForce3-Ti200 is absolute crap! Grab a 128MB ATI RADEON 8500 LE and update the BIOS to the retail 8500 and oc it via the pencil mod.

I have a MSI GeForce 3Ti200 64MB and I really like it and no pencil trick required to overclock. Actually MSI includes in its drivers a nifty utilities that permits you to overclock the card in the Display Properties, couldn't be easier.

I've never owned the 128MB ATI RADEON 8500 LE so I can't say if it SUCKS or NOT.

while the ti200 might be less than stellar (i wouldn't know), my Gainward GF3 (bought it before the "ti" mumbo jumbo) easily overclocks to to ti500 speeds with Gainward's own utility. PLUS, gainward's support is as good or better than any tech ive dealt with.

ti200 isnt that bad... but my GF3 overclocks to 250/500... i could push my mem up to 535 but i like the figure 250/500=1/2... hahaha... i'm a little obsessed on symmetry. maybe you should go check out a plain GF3...

Get an idea of relative performance here.

newegg has a "built by ATI" bulk R8500 le @$99.

Very little difference in over-clockability between nVidia brands, altho some zealots will disagree!

I got this: GF3 Ti 200 from newegg and it is a great card for the price. Read the reviews on the site, 186 votes as of now with a 5 star rating. I put a Crystal Orb on it, wich can be seen in my links below.

I've got the 8500LE 128MB; it's a great card. However, for the $$ he's looking at, maybe a 64MB 8500 would fit the bill nicely (and be about the same price as the TI).
