Local shop here in Kitchener Ont has the following.
Obviously these are in Canadian $'s

ABIT AV8-3rd Eye $159
ASUS A8V Deluxe $164
Epox EP-9NDA3+ $152
MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum $185
Soltek SL-K8TPRO-939 $139 (have seen it for as low as $128)

MSI looks like too much money :) I think I can rule that out. Epox looks interesting for that price, and the Abit's 3rd eye is a neat feature. Soltek seems like a great price!!!

All I really want to do is get a 3200 to 2.5 Gig on a stock cooler in a Sonata case(like the lock on front, my little boy wont get in and power it on and off all day)

What you guys think, keeping in mind the prices? Go with Soltek, great board for that $$, or Epox is a great board with the Nforce for that price? Abit is a good board, and has a cool clock for monitoring the PC :)

Thx

I would go with the Abit personally as long as you're sticking with AGP graphics and not moving to PCI Express. But I agree with DaveA, if you are conscious about the price I wouldn't waste the extra money for the Third Eye. It's good for "cool" factor but not for value. Just get the regular AV8.

From the specs you posted above the Epox board will be your best bet. That board has been shown to do 250MHz FSB easily and that will get the 2.5GHz overclock you are looking for. There's a pretty extensive thread in this forum regarding the Soltek board. It seems like a good board for the price but I'm not sure if it's proven to be a good overclocker. After the MSI K8N NEO2, the Epox EP-9NDA3+ is the next best board for overclocking and includes all the features you'll need.

Thank You for your replies.

Any thoughts on the MSI K8T Neo2-FIR? I have found it for $135. I do not see many opinions on this board at all, wonder if that is good or bad :) Maybe nobody is buying it?

Hey MTSteel, I am from London, Ont.. can you tell me if this place has a website? or what they are called if not? always looking for a good local shop to buy from ! I'd drive the 45 mins to Kitchener for good product and prices!

I'd go with the Soltek out of those.. it's a great performer, and is an incredible value. Ive owned nothing but Solteks for the last few years, and never been disappointed.

I would go for the abit. They can do 255-260 htt stable (I own one). I also have the Epox and I like the abit better. I got the Epox because I have a 3000 and I wanted to get a higher oc but both top at around 260 htt. I know some members here have theirs at 300+ htt so I am sad that mine did not perform like that.

Hey MTSTEEL, i'm going through something similiar to you trying to decide on a mobo. My top three favorites right now are the Soltek, which seems like a great board, the reviews have all been good, and i've seen that Soltek is active in responding to forum posts, which is important. But i've read that Soltek is releasing a socket 939 board based on the nforce 4 chipset, so i'm waiting for that. Second is the FOXCONN/winfast "755FXK8AA-8EKRS" SiS 755FX , which is $99 us dollars from newegg. Not a great overclocker, but from what i've read on anandtech, it's a very inexpensive board with alot of features, and what little overclocking you can achieve is supposed to be super stable. I think it's the only board that's under $100 and has firewire. And my last choice would be the MSI "K8T NEO2-FIR" VIA K8T800 Pro, which is around $115 dollars U.S. Good board, good company name, overclockable and has firewire.
