can't connect to wireless network with Netgear card

just finished reinstalling xp home on my mom's dell, plugged in the netgear usb wireless card, added it to the mac allow list on the router, installed the software and connected it to the network, it says it's connected but I can't get online. everything looks like it's working. I checked the stats under the netgear stuff and it says 0kbits/sec transmitted and received. so, I have all green lights, just no actual connection. all the other computers in my house are working fine. ideas?

hmm, I fixed it somehow. every single usb wifi adapter I've bought (four so far) STINKS, with the single exception of the FAR Syntax adapter I got from Hot Deals. I use it on my own computer. Works awesome.
