I'm trying to set up my new computer (Windows XP), but an having trouble connecting to the internet. I believe I have my ethernet card set up properly, but it dosen't work. Everything is set up just as my isp's website says it should. Yet, it says my ip address should start with 12, but mine starts with 10. I followed their advice and did a release/renew, but it didn't change it. I thought ip addresses starting with 10 are reserved for nats, but as far as I can tell, I am not. Is there a way to check this? any other ideas on what might be wrong?

If you need any other clarification, just ask, I would really like to se this thing working asap.

how is your computer hooked up?

Internet->Modem->Router->You

When you plug in the modem, XP should automatically configure the network. Are you sure you have the NIC set up properly? Try going to device manager, uninstall the NIC, shut down the computer, move the NIC to a different slot, and reboot and reinstall the NIC with windows drivers.

WindowsXP should automatically detect the network connection and have you ready to go in moments.
