Account server is down until they finish the rollback.

You've got singleplayer bots (create an offline account) until it's back up.

What rollback? Are they pulling another patch off their server or what? They really suck at program fixes it seems... :p

Somebody hacked the account server and unlocked all the weapons on 5 million accounts.

The account server has been taken down indefinitely until it's fixed. (The "roll back")

yea i played with the unlocked weapons yesterday.... the game was actually very fun.... atleast now i know that my next weapon for sure is gonna be the anti-tanker! i unlocked the medic gun first... not bad, but after the initial burst, it gets pretty inaccurate, even for super-close-quarter combat.

PS: IMO it takes way too long to unlock all the weapons....

Battlefield 2 stat security holes exploited

By old fashioned hackers

By Aaron McKenna: Tuesday 26 July 2005, 09:59

A GROUP reminiscent of the good old fashioned type of hackers who would break into your system for the fun of it and then warn you of the security holes rather than turn your homepage into a porno site has struck at EA and the apparently insecure Battlefield 2 stats tracking system.
The game tracks players on certain official servers and racks up each kill, death and achievement to a central statistics tracking server on which players can see how they?re doing. It also unlocks more weapons for players to use as they rise through the ranks in each individual class of soldier.

This group claimed in a forum posting on Total Battlefield 2, here that:

?Well, what a wonderful few days it has been. Since EA didn't take the time to respond (or maybe even read) our emails about various stats-server security holes, it clearly showed us how much they care. Therefore, we came to the conclusion that modifying 5 million accounts wouldn't be that big of a deal.

That being said, accounts with ids from 40,000,000 to 45,000,000 now have all of their weapons unlocked.

What will be next week? Perhaps they will give everyone their Distinguished Service Medal, or maybe elevate everyone to the rank of Sergeant Major.
Though we could probably say reams about EA and take this opportunity to dance on its grave for a bit, we won't. That would be Schadenfreude.

EDIT: This sucks, but hopefully EA will have all the security holes buttoned up (not likely).
What REALLY sucks though, is the 2K points, ribbon, and medals that I earned while the stat server was down are non-existant. Eh-well.

Scratch that. They just brought them up, apparently. I haven't tried yet, though.

So this is why I can't connect to the Demo server. I was screwing around with my firewall and such thinking something changed.

At least I know its not a problem on my end. Its also pretty sad that someone can't quit screwing around with something that isn't theirs.

They WERE warned. Not defending hackers, but. EA knew about it.
