Can't connect my front IEEE cable on my new build

I recenly built an AMD64 3000 system with help from AT.

I have two firewire ports on the mobo and two firewire ports on the case. Except I can't get the front firewire port to connect to the mobo.

The mobo is a gigabyte k8nF-9. It has two DIFFERENT firewire receptors. One receptor hooks up to the firewire port that came with the mobo that goes on the back fine.

The other one doesn't connect properly to the case.

This is what the antec supplement says:

You will find a single 10-pin connector on a cable attached to the front IEEE 1394 connection. This is an intel standard connector which is keyed so that it can't be accisdentally reversed as long as it is connected to a proper Intel standard motherboard header. Connect the 10-pin connector to your motherboard header so that the blocked pin fits over the missing header pin.

Note: Please check your motherboard manual for your IEEE 1394 header pin layout and make sure it matches the attached table. If you intend to connect the front Firewire port to a IEEE 1394 add-on card that comes with external-type IEE connector, please call Antec customer service at (888) 54ANTEC (North America) for an adapter. This adapter will allow you to connect the front IEEE 1394 port to the external-type connector.

On page 25 of the manual online you can see the firewire connectors. The cable on from the antec case doesn't fit in with either of these. Will the cable antec is offering from customer service the thing I need? Or should I contact my local dealer?

The Gigabyte Manual says this:
Serial interface standard set by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, which has features like high speed, high bandwidth and hot plug. Be careful with the polarity of the IEEE1394 connector. Check the pin assignment carefully while you connect the IEEE1394 cable, incorrect connection between the cable and connector will make the device unable to work or even damage it. For optional IEEE1394 cable, please contact your local dealer.


Do I need the cable from Antec? Or from my local dealer? if so, what kind? Isn't it more of an adapter I need since a cable already comes out from the front of the Antec case?

You could try getting an adapter from gigabyte that turns the pins into an external-type connector and then get the adapter from antec that lets you connect your 10-pin connector to the external-type connector.
 
So what kind of connector does the Sonata have then? I have an antec case and it's just 10 little loose pins that aren't in any type of connector. I placed them in the order for the pin layout on my mobo and wrapped a peice of tape around them.

We found a mistake on the Sonata 1394 cables. The mistake is the positive signal (+) and negative signal (-) has been switched. The correct pin layout is as below:

VP = White
VG = Black
TPB- = Red
TPB+ = Green
TPA- = Orange
TPA+ = Blue

What is the typical pin configuration of the Antec Firewire or IEEE1394 connector?
The Antec Firewire or IEEE1394 connector follows the Intel standard layout. Majority of motherboards follow the same layout. Intel Standard 10pin Layout

Pin 1 = TPA+ Pin 2 = TPA-
Pin 3 = Ground Pin 4 = Ground
Pin 5 = TPB+ Pin 6 = TPB-
Pin 7 = Power Pin 8 = Power
Pin 9 = Key or Blocked pin Pin 10 = Ground
Note: The Firewire connector of most of our cases only has 6 wires since we are using only 1 Power and 1 Ground. This is still compatible with the Intel Standard.

The sonata comes with a 10-pin connector. Did you find that Antec post about the sonata firewire on their site? Can you normally take out the pins from a connector and re-arrange them?
 
I also have this problem, unresolved. The trouble is the blocked pin on the Antec cord. The antec cord blocks pin 9, and the motherboard has a gap at pin 8. (Or something like that):
 
I had the same problem with a Sonata. Different mobo. Called Antec CS number in manual. Explained problem to woman. They shipped me the adapter for free in 2 days. Good luck.
