I used to just hit "cancel" at my win98 login box. my friends played with my computer, not it says "the network cannot validate blah blah" when i just hit cancel. but if i actually use my usr😛w, then it still works.

i searched the registry for "cannot validate" and nothing came up. i actually had a couple day old reg. backup, so i restored it, and it still didn't work.

where else does windows look before it logs on?

any other ideas?

thanks

david

Check your network properties, see if it's set to use microsoft networking client or windows login as default. I believe changing this may fix the problem.

Win9x/ME does some strange things with networking, depending on the situation. For instance, it keeps a local copy of your password, and can also use a password from a domain server. If these passwords don't match, you'll get a message telling you the password is incorrect for either the server or the local machine, so you have to use both password, and then change them so that they are the same password again.

Sorry I can't be of more help... It's been a long time since I've used anything not NT based...
