Did a bunch of research last night and this morning and decided to buy:

Daisy Model 880 BB Carbine Air Rifle with Scope
Crosman .177cal Hollow Point Pellets, 500 count

Went through the ordering process at Walmart.com and got a message that they could not deliver, choose pickup instead... due to state or carrier restrictions. OK, I go to pick up instead and the message said that due to restrictions they could not be picked up. What's up with this? I'm in Berkeley, CA.

Sorry, you live in the people's republic of kalifornia, no bb gun for you. Can't have law abiding citizens walking around heavily armed with bb guns.......

I went to buy a pellet gun (a rifle) in a store in IL a while back, there is a waiting period. I wouldn't be surprised if CA has some pretty strict laws, too.

lol

IL and CA have the stupidest laws in the country by far. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to show ID to buy vinegar or something dumb like that.

That's even stricter than Canadian law. Here you just have to be over 18 to buy a BB gun or crossbow. Oddly pistol crossbows are illegal. I would think they'd be less powerful than the long stock ones.

At least you aren't limited to 12 ft/lbs like in the UK. You think cali is bad? Try the shooting sports elsewhere.

Weird, I just ordered a BB gun from amazon just to see what would happen (I tried this years ago and they said nuh-uh when I had a NYC shiiping address) and the order went thru. Should I expect a SWAT hit tonight??? :)

Nonsense. You can buy handguns, rifles and shotguns with no trouble, I own several myself in fact.

Maybe the problem is wallyworld?

Now that I think about it, it must be the walmart in your area because I bought an air rifle a few years ago from walmart here in north county San Diego.

Ok, amazon is back up. I cancelled my order as I know it would be stopped.

In IL you can't buy one that shoots over 700FPS(or about that) without a Firearm Owners Card and the 24 hour cooloff period.

Can't have anyone going on a shooting rampage with a single shot, break action pellet gun.

I'm having trouble finding air rifle death statistics. There's cases here and there, but no solid numbers. Clearly they're being covered up by second amendment zealots.

eh, I'll call Walmart again (called this morning around 9AM Pacific, trying to find out if the store had them in stock and she said no and couldn't look up other local Walmarts because the person who (wo)man's the terminal was not there), and ask for the sports department and ask if it's possible for me to drive over there and buy one, and if not, why not. BTW, there are no Walmart stores in Berkeley, the ones I'm look at are in Oakland, San Leandro or Richmond.

it probably has more to do with the opportunity of using it as a murder weapon because it's easier to conceal or use in improper position rather than power.

45 minutes later and I still haven't succeeded in talking to someone at my closest Walmart's sports department. ~15 minutes on hold, they suggested I call back later, I demured (held on). Finally, they took down my item names and phone number and I'm awaiting a call back. Hmm. I think I may just buy off Amazon (try!), will pay almost $10 more, but not have to pickup. Why in the hell they won't send it to me is beyond me. Ebay's shipping policy for these appear to have no restrictions for CA residents. Why would Walmart refuse to send it to me??? Off Ebay it's ~$22 more for just the pellet gun, I won't go that route unless Amazon won't send it to me.

Fuck Walmart. Almost 2 hours later, I still haven't been able to talk to someone who knows shit about this (i.e. their Sports Department). You call them and someone answers the phone but try to connect to a specific department and you're SOL, has been my experience. I was hooked up to the electronics department, then a different department, WTF.

So, I want ahead and ordered through Amazon, no problems at all. It cost me more but I don't have to drive over or deal with Walmart's we-can't-ship-it-to-you-or-order-for-pickup, due to "restrictions" nonsense.

Yeah, near as I can tell with this firearm, after firing off one pellet, it will take you 1/2 a minute to reload another (if you're lucky) and then you have to cock the thing 10 times to get the ~650 fps maximum muzzle velocity (with a pellet, with BB's Daisy is asserting 800 fps is possible)... repeat for the next shot.

Hey, I'm moving up in the world. Before today the most lethal gun I've purchased is a water pistol.

Walmart is not selling Firearms in California, and I guess they decided Air Rifles should be included as well.

OP, please help attempt to defeat the disgusting CA bills that are only one committee and the Governor's signature away from becoming law, if in fact you do support 2A rights. Wednesday is a huge day. ( I recommend Calguns.net )
