Can't break 4000 in 3dmark 2003 with my 9600

I have the 9600 clocked as far as I think I can go @ 485/350. I am using cat 3.5's as they are the best perfromers I have foudn so far. The cat4.0's will closk the same but will give me about 80 fewer points and the newest cat 4.5's won't even let me clock the card as high. Anybody ahve any suggestions. My highes score so far is 3920. I am so close.

The rest of the system is as follows:
AthlonXP @ 2.3ghz
1gb XMS 3200 @ 2-3-3-7
DFI lanparty NFII revA
36gb WD raptor
onboard sound
passive heatsinks on ram
Artic cooling vga silencer

I don't know... It's unusual that the other top end cards are getting scores over 15000 in 3dmark03. Maybe your processor is holding you back.

😀

im getting 3020 marks with my 9600pro @492/334 there must be something wrong, maybe disable truform....

your saying something is wrong with mine when you are gettin scores 900 points lower with a higher core clock. Not to be condesceding but I doubt you could help.

9600 won't get over 4000. the 4 pipes don't do it justice.

I have seen quite a few on the online search that have nearly 5000 with their XT's.

I may be mistaken, but I think the XTs use a different core, and may have 256-bit memory addressing...

With Air cooling? or liquid? It needs to be really high clocked to reach those scores.

i think his point was that you have pretty similar systems, and although his core oc is higher than yours, his score is lower.
however i think that would point to some problem in his system, not yours.

4000 is a hard limit to reach with a slower core than a 9800, 128-bit memory interface and 4 pipes. I'm getting around 5200 which is 9800 Pro speed w/a little overclocking. So if you're even close to 4000 with stock HSF, your card is holding up very well and you should be pleased with that. I'll never say you shouldn't overclock it until its time to RMA, but I'd stick there for awhile.

Yeah I am very pleased. I can run CS in 16x12 with all the goodies, and Freelancer in 12x9 with all the goodies. I am very pleased but I am going to be upgrading soon and a 9600 that broke 4000 3Dmarks is a nice selling point. Especially considering I have a AthlonXP not a 64.

I need to take a picture of my set-up too. I have tehy shroud and fan off the artic coler and IT actualy performs better. I have a 120mm intake on teh front blowing right at it about 6 inches away and an 80mm fan on teh side less than an inch away.

I just wasn't sure whose he was saying was broke.

I finally got my 9600 XT up to speed on my system (massive driver/registry cleaning required), and I'm *only* getting ~3700 on my Athlon 2400 / 512MB. That's with the card at ~540/325 on stock cooling and the Omega 4.5 drivers. I think you're doing quite well. Enjoy!

I think you are asking for alot... Not many 9600 Pro's that I have seen are that great in 3dmark03. I am glad that my 9500 pro gets 4500 though.

i can run CS with those settings on a geforce 2. 🙂

My XT at 525/339 can't get above 3972.
Those with near 5k on XTs either got lucky with core and memory, have done volt mods, or have extreme cooling. It will be rare to find any 9600 that will do better than 4400 out of the box.

i was saying that "I" must have a problem in my system not yours and i will play with some settings when i get home to see if i can get a higher score, though you should be happy with what youve achieved

I am happy with mine and if you want any tips I would be more than happy to help see of yours can do as well or better than mine. That is the reason we are here after all. I guess I will just have to live with not breaking 4000, NOT! I will break 4000 at all costs, including DEATH(of the card).

Anybody got a link to a volt mod for a 9600?
