I have an old FIC PA-2007 mobo (VIA VP2 chipset) that doesn't seem to like Infineon PC133 64MB SDRAM. I can get the SDRAM to work on it, but only if I first run it with only EDO SIMMs installed I can get into the CMOS. Erasing the CMOS or holding down the Ctrl key during boot don't help, and I can't boot with the BIOS defaults. My worry is, what if the CMOS is erased one day, and I don't have SIMMs to boot the computer?
The wierd thing is, with my VA-503+ (also VIA chip set) has the opposite problem - I can't get EDO SIMMs to work in it unless I first set the CMOS with SDRAM installed.
