Can't boot up past PCI device listing... HELP!!!

gopunk

Lifer
I just finished putting together my new computer, and it won't boot up past the point where it lists the PCI devices. It lists the IDE Controller (Bus No. 0, Device No. 4, IRQ 14/15), two Serial Bus Controllers (Bus 0, Device 4, IRQ 12), a Multimedia Device (Bus 0, Device 5, IRQ 10), and the last one listed is Display Controller (Bus 1, Device 5, IRQ 11). Can somebody please help me? Thanks

I'm guessing a boot disc won't work because it doesn't get to that point? Try stripping hardware from your system to isolate the problem. Put hardware devices back one by one until you see which thing messes up.

thanks, but i tried that after i posted, and no luck. i unplugged primary, secondary ide, and the floppy, and it still wouldn't work. another weird thing is that my power button doesn't work when it hangs up after listing the pci devices. any more suggestions?

I'm guessing that you also unplugged everything in PCI/ISA except for display adaptor? So the only thing you have plugged into the mobo is power, display, cpu/hsf and keyboard? The reason your power button isn't working after it freezes is because you have an ATX case most likely, and the power button is software-controlled. Since the software is "dead" at the moment, the power button doesn't respond. In order to override the power button, press and hold it in for like 7 sec and it will shutdown. Other than isolating hardware, i dunno..

yea i'm at a loss too. oh well, i think i'm going to take it to a shop. thanks anyways!
