Can't boot into winXP - could this be a mobo-failure? (8kha+)

Since I got my new system yesteday (epox 8kha+, 512 crucial, xp1600, thermaltake 6cu) I haven't been able to boot into
my old winXP drive (the one I used with my old intel system), it says something like "to protect your pc windows will shut down now", in a blue screen each time I try.

So I'm about to format the whole drive to begin over with win2k, but I will loose a lot of stuff that I would have really liked
to keep - but before I do this, I want to make sure that it's not just the mobo that's faulty, cause I've heard that epox mobos
have a high return-rate.

Other than this problem the bios has run fine, no problems, except it can't find my floppy drive, says "Floppy disk(s) failure 40".

Does this sound like a mobo problem to you, or just windows being silly?

I have had both of those problems recently.

1) Your floppy cable is in backwards.

2) What error number is given on the blue screen? If it is 0x24, put in your Win XP CD, go to recovery console, type fixmbr. Done.

If it is something other than 0x24 search on the MS site for "stop error 0x13" if 0x13 was your number.

My error is like this: 0x00000000007 (and then three numbers 0x000etc, 0x000etc, 0x000etc)

Well, see, XP still has the Intel motherboard drivers in there, and gets confused because there is now an EPOX board.

In Win98, you could boot into safe mode, and remove all drivers, then try again.

But 2000/XP don't really have that. I guess you could do it from the recovery console, but it's not as easy.

For future reference, remove all the drivers that have something to do with the hardware you are about to remove, and then try again.

For mobo changes, a reinstall never hurts.

Well, everything doesn't workout, get a hd, install OS, then copy your data over to the new hd.
If you have to use the drive(the hd you can't boot), format it and copy everything from the drive.

Well it works now - I downloaded some Win2000 startdisks, and they let me install win2000 on my first HD, so I can copy my data now to the other drive now... if it wasn't for this damned "delayed write failed" problem 8((
