"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system32\DRIVERS\nvcchflt.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

That's the error I'm having when try to boot into windows. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you.

You can try and do a chkdsk as the disk may be corrupted or you can do a repair installation via the Windows CD. Just go through the steps as though you're going to reinstall Windows. However, when it gets to the portion where it notices you already have Windows installed, just hit "R" and it will reinstall Windows over itself. In the process, it will delete any system files and replace them with new ones. Your data on your hard drive will be saved. However if there is corruption on the disk or if the hard drive is going bad, you may lose that data. I would do a data back up first. If you can put that hard drive into another computer and just back up whatever data you need just in case the disk is going bad or you encounter an error that it can't recover from.

Why not try adding the drive as a slave into another PC and replacing the missing file from your WinXP cd?

You could also run chkdsk on it (HD) when it is connected to some other PC to see if there are any physical problems/corrupt sectors on the HD.

Get a memtest86 floppy and run checkdisk if the memtest pans out error free.
I had some memory related errors, and similiar file corruption. I got a memtest86 floppy and the first pass I was upto 46 errors.

Time to RMA my RAM. :|
