I'm getting this error message then the computer shuts down:

Error loading System.drv - you must reinstall wundows

How do I reinstall Windows without losing my data?

Just re-install windows without formatting the hd. I can'tremember for sure, but I think that the installation gives you the opportunity to frag the old installtion. Decine.

Just boot from your win98 cd and let it install over the top. You will have to make your cdrom the first boot device in the bios.
You also will have to reload hardware drivers that arent included on the windows disk, so make sure you know your hardware before the install.
Its possible that this "dirty install" may not solve your problem. If your datas valuable, maybe bring it to a pro and try get the data moved or saved to a differant drive thru dos or some other method before ya make a move.

rebeard, I followed the instructions in the thread you linked.

I'm getting this error message:

Cannot find win.com, unable to continue loading windows.

I can't boot from the floppy or the cdrom. Same problem when I tried installing a new HD.

I think that the motherboard is shot.
