Can't boot from CDROM

I'm trying to format the old hard drive and install win2k on a computer that i just gave to my sister. I set the bios to boot from the cd. I get the prompt that says "press any key to boot from the cd". Whether or not i press a key, it does not boot to the cdrom. It instead boots to the old OS i have installed. It's very weird...it seems like the cdrom just doesn't read the disk after that prompt. What's wrong?

Do you have a startup disk for Windows? If you do, boot from that, it should give you the option of starting the computer with CDROM support, choose that and it will load to a DOS prompt where you can change to your CD drive and run setup.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have the startup disks for win2k...and to make them would take four disks, right? ehhhhh :disgust:

I think it's weird that it reads the cdrom drive for a bit, gives me the prompt to boot from it, and then suddenly boots directly to the hard drive. Any other opinions?

Two ways come to mind:

1)Prior to formatting current drive, copy the "i386" file from the Win2000 Cdrom to your drive and run "setup.exe" (or something like it-I don't exactly remember).

2)Get the set of 4 Win2000 boot floppies from www.bootdisk.com (or make them from the CDrom, there's some sort of "mkdisk" command that will do this.

I always start simple, like switch the cd cable to another ide slot, switch the ide cable altogether. Try playing with all the boot options in the bios, make the cdrom first and maybe the only boot option.

Maybe clean the win2k cd, check it for scratches.

go to bios at cmos look under your cdroom sometime bios set it to manual with some reason so set it back to auto than you done😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust::frown:😕:frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown:😕:frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown:😕:frown:😕:frown::disgust:😎😛😉🙂:Q🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕:frown:😕
