Ok normally when I change the bios settings such as ram speeds or fsb speeds the pc will usually not boot right when it first restarts. Then I have to power down, wait a few secs and then turn it back on. After that it starts fine with the new settings. This time though it won't boot anymore no matter what. It just sits there at a black screen and I can't do anything. I even tried clearing the cmos but it still won't boot. Maybe I'm not clearing the cmos correctly? What I did was turn off the pc and unplug it. Then I removed the battery, set the jumper to clear cmos and then moved the jumper back to it's orriginal spot, then I put the battery back in and it still doesn't boot. What the hell is going on? Is the battery dead or something? Here's my specs:

A7N8X Deluxe - Nforce 2 Ultra 400
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
768MB PC2100 Ram
Ati Radeon 8500 128MB

Please help. I had to post this on my cousin's pc.

Does the motherboard require you to remove the battery? I simply move the jumper, turn on, turn off, and move back to clear CMOS. Also, is the battery in properly?

You sure you're clearing the right jumper? There's another jumper fairly close to the CMOS Clear jumper.

Yeah your BIOS chip is corrupted. Either find the same board with same bios chip and put it in your machine, boot it and hot swap your corrupted chip in and flash it...or email the manufacturer and get them to send you a bios chip in the mail.

Had to do it with my DFI, damn phoenix bios :)

A lot of patience and a chip puller or a screw driver / plyer. Be very careful not to bend pins, just pop it straight out and put the new one straight in, boot it up and pop out new one and put corrupted one in. Run whichever flash util you use to try to flash it, and if it works you're good. Hopefully it's not corrupted beyond a good flash, or it's time for a new one. Luckily most reputable Manufacturer's will ship a free one to you.

First off the board should not do that when you change settings anyways...That is a bunch of crap and I have owned about 10 different mobos and built a few more for friends and I have never had one act like that....

Try maybe to short the power supply. I have heard of it helping in some instances....

Bios corrupting can happen but does usually happen from clearing the cmos many times....How many times have you done it recently???

never. I only cleared it because it stopped booting. I've never had to clear it before. I've been searching around the net and it seems many people with my mobo have had this problem. Some have even had it happen to them right after they only change the clock.
