Can't believe what my daughters school did...

My daughters school started a fundraiser for new playground equipment, i have no problem helping or donating to that effort. What I do have a problem with is how they are going about it. Yesterday my daughter in Kindergarten showed up with a fake pill package marked "Rx for fun" that looks like a big package of sinus medication. You pop out one of the fake pills and depending on the color you make a $1 or $2 donation. My wife and I were like  The pills are some sort of plastic bead or something.

What school in their right mind sends fake medication packets with Kindergartners to play with and teaches them how to open them? Besides that the school has a no tolerance drug policy, you can get suspended for a bag of oregano or bringing your prescription medicine without turning it into the office.

We wrote a letter to the principal today about our concern, are we overreacting?

i agree , this was not well thought out

i think a letter or meeting with the administration is appropriate

sounds like something the marketing dept. at a large corp. would come up with, not so good for kids at a school

Sounds like the school is the one that overreacted (no tolerance policies are ALWAYS no intelligence policies). Now, you are just playing by their rules. I think sending a letter is acceptable, but you won't really be able to undo anything, so the letter will likely go nowhere.

a very, poorly conceived idea.

you were right to express your concern.

overreacting would be threatening to sue for millions.

I am always the first to think that people over-react nowadays, but that still sounds stupid to me. They should have thought that one through a bit more.

writing a letter is under-reacting IMO. I would've been there asap with the "pills" in hand ready to tear someone up. Dumbest fund raiser ever...

No you're not overreacting. I would follow up with a face to face meeting as well. That is ridiculous.

I think you are over reacting but I was raised in a much less hypersensitive age.

In a sense, you are overreacting. To be concerned about something like that is a bit insane. OTOH, with the way society is now, you are really protecting yourself. So basically, is it a stupid overreaction? Yes. Is it necessary? Also yes.

I don't think being irritated by a school handing out fake pills is being hypersensitive. Being hypsersensitive would be like firing a teacher because students saw a few nude sculptures.

normally i would think you're overreacting but considering their no-tolerance policy i think they're being a little hypocritical.

I'm on this bus.

Are the pills actually plastic? Like, non digestable?

I almost want to call shens on principal, cause I can't believe the stupidity.

That was a very bad idea on the school's part. Why can't they stick to selling cookies?

so far it seems everyone but merlocka are thinking about it in the drugs area of concern, seems as if myself and merlocka are the only ones thinking about a youngin' chocking or stuffing up their nose or just plain swallowing? that is, they are plastic right? because yea, that alone shows how stupid.. let's put little plastic things that may look like candy to a youngin' in their hands.
