Can't Believe that people would shoplift claritin

Your local pharmacist is on the lookout for sniffling shoplifters. Pharmacies around the country are eyeing suspicious allergy sufferers who may shoplift over-the-counter versions of Claritin, the popular allergy remedy newly available on drugstore shelves.

I just laugh.

People wanted it to go OTC. It did. Now it's $30 a month instead of $10 that they were paying with a copay.

Health insurance don't seem so bad now does it?

Ehhh...there was a city councilman in the city I went to highschool in that got arrested for shoplifting Preparation H. People just do stupid things.

Gee, who could ever think of a reason why sick people might steal ridiculously overpriced medicine.

Gee, why would a sick person believe their illness entitles them to the free labor of another person? Does your illness make me your slave?

Yet again the sense of entitlement in this country amazes me.

Yes, because understanding why someone did something is the same thing as condoning it.

I suppose that if someone shot the guy who his wife was sleeping with, and I said "Well, it's pretty obvious he did it cause his wife was cheating with the guy." That means I think he was entitled to shoot him, huh?

I guess everytime the police try to esablish motive in an investigation, it means that they condone what the criminal did?

Please, stop pretending I said things that I didn't.

you can also get addicted to claritin, which would put some people in the position to have to steal to get their fix

Well to top it off, alot of insurance companies won't even pay for alternatives such as Allegra or Zyrtec because Claritan is OTC. I deal with people bitching at me about this all day as I am a pharmacy technician in a large chain supermarket. People will steal all sorts of things, the most common being nicotine patches and gum, mach 3 blades, teeth whitening strips, and claritan. The disgusting part is that I work in the nicest part of town in white suburbia, where everyone likes to think that they are high and mighty. Fresno is highly agricultural and often the central valley is considered the foodbasket of the world. This results in us having major problems with allergies because of the high concentration of irritants in our air (not to mention pollutants since we live in a valley). Almost everyone that moves here eventually develops some sort of allergies. Typically the creeps that come in are the ones that bitch and moan about the pollution, yet drive giant SUVs. Complain about the price of medication, yet are against any form of government regulation of drug companies or universal healthcare. All the rich whitefolk sure like to bitch to the little asian pharmacy technician behind the counter that couldn't care any less.

Most medications are ripoffs, IMO. My wellbutrin costs $62 a month. My copay is $14, but still, It comes out to $2.10 a pill. I'm sorry, but there's a reason why pharmaceutical companies are filthly profitable lately.

amen to that

I came across an opened box (aka shoplifted contents) of Claritin the other day. Pretty sad really. I'm still using Clarinex only because my copay is cheaper than paying for Clartin since they're pretty much the same thing. Once the Claritin generics hit the market then I'll switch over to those.

Too many people here use the jump to conclusion mat. 🙂

pharmaceuticals will charge what the market will bear. If you go out of country, medication costs a fraction of a fraction of what it costs here. Why? Because the economy will pay what they ask. Is it fair? Prolly not, but that's part of what this country is.

No you cannot

Notfred, consider that no one is going to die if they do not get their Claritin. Next, the manufacturers get the lion share of profits, not the retailer. It is the retailer who is out the money when something is stolen. Then consider that most shoplifting is not done by people who cannot afford it, but don't feel they have to. Too much, they think. That entitles them to steal it.

Edit- condone means to excuse, not understand.

If I condone your behavior, I may not understand it, but I forgive you for acting that way.

heh- loved this posting. you really should make a remark to those SUV drivers- i usually like to comment rather loudly that people that drive big SUVs CLEARLY HAVE A SMALL PENIS. It's especially irritating to me b/c I live in West LA. What the F$%# do you need an SUV for over here? To navigate the harsh roads of Brentwood? To avoid the wild and dangerous animals that haunt the streets of Westwood?

About the cost of claritan.... BEFORE it went OTC the price of Claritan COST us the retailer MORE than it does now for a consumer to buy over the counter. Meaning that before it went OTC they charged us about 1.25-1.50 per pill at OUR cost. Now that its OTC they are charging people for the same stuff, around 1.00 per pill. Claritan is still available as a prescription because some insurance companies do pay for it. YET our cost is still as it was before..... AROUND 1.25-1.50..... THAT WAY Schering still gets a huge chunk of money from the insurance companies, while we the pharmacy net about 10 dollars above cost after all is said and done. You can all thank your fellow republicans. I'm a moderate when it comes to politics.... neither extremely rightist or leftist, but working in the pharmacy and watching how these giant companies work, I am really sickened by these business practices.

Is it any wonder that many of these pharmaceutical giants contribute money to the republican party? The republican party does it best to keep these rich people happy. Don Rumsfield used to be CEO of G.D. Searle now owned by Pharmacia. Is it any wonder why these companies donate only to the republican party? They sure like to take care of their own don't they.

Blue Cross just raised the copay on every allergy medication to the highest possible level. So for me Allegra went from $15 to $120. Claritin doesn't work for me, and plus it makes me sleepy.

I'm no hardcore leftist though....from the standpoint of an observer though what I've seen these big corporations do alot of times disgusts me.

They contribute to both parties.

They may contribute some to the democrats but nowhere nearly as much.

When I saw the title I thought it said "Can't believe that people would shoplift dating" and I thought, boy, that'd be a weird date.
