Like Skoorb said, you don't think "I don't even know who she is anymore!" sounds like he's freaking out?

Well then what do you want me to do? If most of us disagree with him, how can he expect us to help and sympathize with him? I think he's getting bent out of shape over something that shouldn't worry him at all. Same goes for most of the people here. Therefore, this is the wrong place to ask for help. He should just talk to her about it.

he wasn't asking for help. he was just sharing his feelings.

Quote me the place where he asked for sympathy or help. ??? He's just, like most of the threads here, relating an experience in his life. The reactions he got were expected, and everyone had a perfect right to react in whatever way they did. I just happen to think most people overreacted.

if you find out that somebody you are really close to is engaging in activities that you would have never thought she would engage in, you too might start to wonder what else you don't know about that person.

Go figure, cause all we're saying is that he's overreacting. "I'm pretty mad at her right now" etc etc, we're all just basically telling him to stop making it sound like his sister is doing something truly terrible. And if he can't take it in the form of a friendly ribbing, then he's got problems far beyond his sister smoking up...he needs to learn to take things with a smile. Maybe you should too.

I think perhaps we're getting nowhere. My stand is this:

1) You know a person, or think you do.
2) That person may or may not smoke weed on occasion.
3) You now claim that you no longer know this person based upon nothing more than this.
4) I think you're freaking out.

That is possible, but it depends on circumstance and background. I know that in my family, raised as I was, making a drastic break from what I was taught, such as smoking ANYTHING, would come from some rebellion, and that might signify being rebellious in other ways as well. On the other hand, coming from a background where it isn't such a big deal, it might only be curiousity or experimentation or whatall. So assuming the smoking pot is the tip of the iceberg isn't the rational assumption to make for some, but it could be for others.

and hotchic is just telling you guys to stop making it sound like he's wrong for worrying about his sister. i once again refer you to the blowjobs. are they terrible? no, in fact i quite like them. but would most people be concerned they found out their sister was giving them to the football team? probably.

And if he can't take it in the form of a friendly ribbing, then he's got problems far beyond his sister smoking up...he needs to learn to take things with a smile. Maybe you should too.

i don't recall ever seeing him indicate that he wasn't able to take this "friendly ribbing".

:) I'm smiling, I'm smiling. ;) The difference in perception here is what's causing the rift. I don't think he makes it out to sound like something terrible, others do. Everyone's reacting according to how they percieve him to be acting. And I don't think he's said anything to imply he can't take it, gopunk and I just jumped to the defense because of the bashing he immediately recieved by having the audacity to say that smoking pot isn't a brilliant thing to do.

ok that's fair, but i think you have an extremely liberal definition of "freaking out". it's only normal to wonder what else you don't know about the person.

My perception of reality shattered a few years ago when I discovered that someone close to me had tried marijuana. At the time I was your basic D.A.R.E-educated kid, who wasn't told exactly why marijuana was bad, only that it was illegal and that bad things would happen if you ever did it. When this person told me that he had tried marijuana, I felt pretty much like Braves did, except more confused. This person was my role model, so how could he be doing something so bad? In the end however, it opened my eyes. I eventually overcame my shock and embarassment over my friend, and did loads of research on marijuana. I came to realize that marijuana is a relatively harmless drug if done responsibly, and that thousands of successful people have tried marijuana or still do it to this day. A few years later, my friend graduated from high school, got a high paying full time job, and is going to university within the year. Just my own personal anecdote, interpret it as you would

Sure. :) *shakes hands with everyone in the 'room'.* Pretty funny when you think about it...we kept arguing about what Braves meant to say, or how he was saying it...as if he couldn't read or "hear" us. ;) Surprised he never stepped in to let us know...
