Can't adjust speed of cpu fan with SpeedFan...

I was wondering it was possible to adjust the cpu fan using software....I have an Asus A8N-E and I know that it comes with Qfan, but Qfan just doesn't work that well for me. But if I remember correctly, speedfan can only adjust the fan if it has something built into it right? Any other software possible to adjust the cpu fan?

No other software to adjust fan speed that I know of. Speedfan's fan control only works on motherboards whose chips (Winbond being most common) support PWM (pulse width modulation). Your board SHOULD support it. There are advanced settings in Speedfan (if you feel like fooling with it) that can sometimes effect whether or not your fan is controlled, how its controlled, & what it reports (rpm's). Read up on it...it tells you. btw I dislike Q-fan as well

I don't have any experience with either but I was told SpeedFan works fine with the A8N-SLI Premium, so in theory it should work with the A8N-E also.

Make sure you turn off the asus automatic fan control - if you're using that then speed fan won't be able to alter the fan speeds.

yea Qfan (asus' automatic fan adjustment thing) is off, the cnps9500 fan is also connected to the motherboard

under speedfan, it shows the fan as "Speed01: 0%" changing it does not affect the fan though

well...there isn't REALLY anything wrong with Q-fan...it's not really qfan's problem but my cpu would reach to 51C (fan on max), then drop to 50C (fan normal), then back up to 51C very quickly. I know i could just set it on to throttle at 54C but then the rpm might be a bit too low.


BTW, i'm pretty sure the actual temperature of the cpu is much lower than 54C, i think it's asus' bad temp sensor. I've already tried re-installing the hsf (with as5). When the ambient temp is near 27 (considered hot), then my cpu reaches to around 60C and only then could i feel that the heatsink is fairly warm to mildly hot when touching nearest to the cpu.
