Can't activate iPhone?

In store, they were having trouble downloading the firmware and so they sent us home with an iPhone that doesn't work except for emergency phone calls. We were told to try it at home... well, it doesn't work.

Any thoughts? Anyone get it to work? I get an error message saying "We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. The network connection was reset."

I'm also having trouble activating it at home. So much for in store activation. All I can say is be patient and keep trying hoping it will authenticate.
 
Thanks, glad that I'm not the only one with this issue 😛

I'll keep trying and maybe I'll get through sometime, that's what most are reporting online.
 
I'm with you guys.🙁 Damn sim card doesn't even work in my old phone. I can get emails, but can't make or receive calls.
 
I did, like I purchased the iphone and my number and what not is ported to this phone. I'm seeing articles say that it is a problem with Itunes Authentication servers being flooded.
 
Hmm.. I'm heading over to my Apple Store in about an hour, so I'm curious what I'm going to find now. Very interesting...

Hopefully this gets sorted out soon. 🙁
 
On the other hand, I've had the coolest paperweight for the past few hours 😛 😉

I'll just keep trying every now and then hoping that it eventually goes through...
 
Kmax I think your going to be out of luck. I've been trying for the past 3 hours and I called my apple store and they said that the itunes authentication servers have been crashed. They said Cupertino is aware of it and is fixing the problem but I mean even when they come up their just gonna get swamped again. I may try at midnight or so.
 
Yea, FerraraZ, that's what I'm afraid of.

Here's what I'm wondering though, if I port my number over to the iPhone, will my old phone still work until I activate the new one?
 
Ahh.. well, then that settles it.. I have to wait until this is sorted out. I have to have my phone working.
 
My old phone doesn't work either. My number is ported to this new iphone that isn't activating so I'm phone less.
 
I too can not activate my iPhone 3G. They weren't able to get it working in the stores and sent us home after we signed the contract and AT&T set up their end of the system. I want to play with my godphone. 🙁
 
Couldn't/shouldn't they have done something to queue people in line for the update? That way the servers wouldn't crash and things would hopefully eventually go back to normal.

I wish they let us buy it and take it home without a contract, that would be pretty awesome since it could be sold for a decent bit of cash 😛

I wonder if something like this could somehow make the contract invalid? I know I'm dreaming, but it would be pretty awesome if all these phones were released without a valid contract 😛
 
I still can't get through to the iTunes servers, but the phone now seems to work- I've checked everything, and it's all up and running. SMS, camera, internet, google maps w/ GPS- everything. Weird.
 
Same crap that happened last year, surprised its doing it again. Unfortunately all you can do is give it time, I imagine the servers will calm down by tonight and hopefully you can activate by then.

Seriously though, I am not expecting a single phone to be left anyways but it better well be up tomorrow when I try to buy one.
 
Ok guys I just tried it and got to activate it through itunes!!!! Finally I've been trying since 8 am. The process took no lie less than 2 minutes. I dunno why Apple didn't just let people buy it and bring it home for activation.
