Is this a work laptop perhaps? If so are you on the company domain (windows)? If so you may have GPO's in place to auto configure your proxy settings when you do logon at work. Something that wouldn't be pushed out to you when using cached credentials at home. However the proxy settings are maintained on my company laptop until I manually uncheck them when at the house. yes it is a work computer. how would i go about unchecking proxy settings?

internet explorer, tools, internet options, connections tab, lan settings button, uncheck the Use a proxy server... option
