Can't access some websites???

I use a dial up internet connection provided through my school. I access it from home.

I can't acces sites such as rage3d.com, weather.com, and yahoo's search function. When I try to go the sites, the browser just stays in a loop. The icon at the top right corner animates and the progress bar at the bottom slowly fills. I don't get a DNS error or anything! It just won't go to the site! Other sites, such as this one, work just fine.

I have another computer at another location, just 2 miles away. It can access the sites just fine.
I used to not have any problems, started about a week ago.
All the settings seem to be the same for both systems...

Any ideas? Thanks.

It just maybe that those sites are very busy. Sometimes I get better browsing after a reboot. Also download Tweakmaster and see if it gives any useful advice.

thanks for the replies.
tried adaware, found a couple reg entries and some cookies. no help though.

maybe I just need to format?? I'd rather not, I did it about a month ago.
this seems like a really strange problem. can access some sites and not others? what kinda setting would do that? i'm thinking it's something with the isp server...but it works great on another computer! arghh!!

anything else?

Well, it could be this,

Go to tools

Internet options,

security tabs,

make sure it's on internet and set it to medium.

then

click on

Programs tab,

and click on

Reset Web settings

Good luck

Have you tried Opera?

Much smaller, few if any security flaws, faster, easy to configure, doesn't support the M$ machine (enough reason right there), download manager without additional software, returns you to all the pages you were at if it crashes (exclusive feature!), empties cookies, cache and history on exit (cache is another exclusive feature).

I have run into the same problem with certain sites. The browser (IE, ns, opera etc) didn't matter, nor did the security/cookie settings etc. I found the problem to be the script that is run to establish the dialup connection. I use Roadrunner at home, and when I go on the road with my laptop, I use it to dial into the RR network. When using their dialup, you have to use a postconnect script to gain access, and I finally figured out that the postconnect script (or whatever settings it put in place) was the problem. Are you by chance using such a script?

Not that I know of. Don't really know how to do that.

Thanks necromancer, set to medium and reset. No help though.

Suppose I'll try Opera. I'm thinking it's some other kinda weird thing, but couldn't hurt to try.

Thanks everyeone. :)
