Two sites off the top of my head:
www.buy.com and www.speedguide.net

I was once able to get to these sites, now when I try (Ever since the December 26th Switch from @Home to Comcast Cable) I get the good ol' "This page can not be displayed"

I noticed this happening a lot in general. I may click on a topic in a forum and I'd get "This page can not be displayed" I'd hit refresh about five/ten times and finally the page will display. But that's not the case all the time.

Funny thing is.. I'm able to tracert to these sites without a problem.

I'm running W2k Pro .. are there any files that I could delete, like Temp Internet Files .. in order to get to these sites again?

A lot of websites are behind firewalls that block Ping - that's likely why you can't ping a site. FYI, I can't ping www.buy.com, either.

AT&T's DNS servers leave MUCH to be desired. I got three assigned to me by DHCP and of those, only one appears to work properly. I just hard-set that one in all my machines and live is good. Try hard-setting yours and see if it works.

How would I hard set it? :p

So you're telling me .. these DNS servers just don't have these domain names mapped to an ip address? What good is a DNS Server then, if I'm going to have to know IP Addresses?

Goto your network properties and enter the dns numbers that are assigned to using dhcp in there. Or use 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 for DNS servers. Brought to you by good 'ole Verizon.

I got nuked by the @home/comcast switchover and was cruising www.dslreports.com this morning.

They have a nice comcast dedicated forum and I seem to remember something about some web sites being unaccessible.

Here's one thread that gones on and on about users that can't get to web sites after the switch

DSL Reports thread on can't getting to web sites

If I recall correctly it has to do with either: Comcast did not implement reverse DNS and some sites require it, OR there is a proxy setting you need to set yourself.

Good luck!

I've been totaly disconnected for a week now and have another week to go before they will consider hooking me back up, so consider yourself lucky that you can get to SOME web sites (my POS com21 modem died and comcast won't issue a new modem until they switch over).

Something else interesting is the fact that the outside world doesn't see my IP address. After the switch, I got an address of 68.38.32.xxx. When I go to a site like www.network-tools.com it shows an address of 68.32.54.99. DSLreports also says that I have requested over my limit of tests based on IP address which of course is referencing the .99 address. The old system allowed my actual IP address to be read.

Perhaps this has some bearing on our inability to get to certain sites. I could get to buy.com, but not speedguide.net (Netscape says contacted, but I don't get the page...) DNS is working just fine...
