Can't access network again?

I just moved back home and conected my computers. Both XP machines and one is running ICS with DSL. The ICS machine used to be connected to a Win ME machine and worked fine. The other was networked with another XP and win 98 machine. Now when browsing the network both say that mshome is not accesable and I may not have the privelages to access the notwork. The ICS is working fine and both systems can go online. Both systems could be accessed on the network before the connection. NetBios is enabled and I reran the network setup wizard, and even enabled simple file sharing, but still no go. What could still be wrong?

Thanks

Restarting has ho effect on either computers. What is with XP that always has problems conecting to networks?

One more thing, the computers don't even see each other, but if I conect to a previously found folder from the same computer it connects but it still cannot browse. I don't have a folder link on one comuter to the other one to test wether individual folders can be accessed from other computers but usualy they can be when I had things like this before. I don't remember what I did, but I hope it was more then just waiting for something to go right at random and for it to work.

Thanks again

Yes they are in the same subnet. The connection is wroking as both cannot go online, but browsing the network is impossible. Both computers use administrator accounts so I cannot see how I can get more network privelages.

ICS is finicky and not a good solution, it works... but also does this kind of thing. You could try setting up the connection from scratch on the slave boxes to see if you can kick start it. If not try setting the connection up again on the master box from scratch. Those are a couple of ideas. Best solution would be to go with an ethernet switch if you have a seperate ethernet DSL modem or a router/modem combo that will work with your provider.

Got it. I tried reseting all the connectons but noting worked and nothing could be accessed still. So then i unplugged the network cables between the two systems and then tried setting up the network. The client could access mshome but did not see any computers not even itself. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled file and printer sharing and reshared the folders using simple file sharing as for some reason a network cannot be setup without simple sharing. And still no computers on mshome. I did the same on the server but the server could not even access mshome. I reconected the cables to try again. Tried connecting from the server and nothing happened, when to the client connected by double clicking the My Network Places icon and then when to workgroup computers and I saw both computers on the network. Whent back to the server and did the same thing. First it took a while like the 30s task wait or a connect failure, but it connected. After some time it reconected in about a seccond instead of the original 30 or so and now it is nice and fast. Then I dissabled simple file sharing and now everything seems fine.

If anybody now why any and all of these steps were neccasary, or which steps are the ones that actualy fixed the connection please post as this a strange and confusing problem.

Thank you all,
elkinm
