Can't access google.com any suggestions?

I have a wierd problem here.... for the last couple of days, the http://www.google.com homepage hasn't been working for me. I am using Internet Explorer 6.0 and all it gives me is the default 'The page cannot be displayed" message. All other websites I go to operate properly. Strangely though, I can access http://images.google.com/ and http://groups.google.com/ and obtain search results to get images or group discussions respectively. Also, if I go to either of those two sites, I can click on the 'Web' tab and go to the normal google search engine... but I can't get any results though because it ends up showing me the 'The page cannot be displayed" message I refered to earlier.

http://www.google.com is working properly on my brother's computer I have hooked up to our cable modem. So it seems like something with my computer is preventing me from accessing the www.google.com homepage. Any suggestions? I've tried everything I can think of regarding Internet Explorer settings. http://www.google.com is the only webpage that isn't working on my computer. Let me know of any suggestions. Thanks

I think I may have some sort of web browser hijacker program. A few items in my registry that deal with internet explorer had some suspicious websites given... like topsearcher.com . Further research showed that that domain is one commonly associated with browser hijackings. so i guess i'll have to get rid of whatever is causing it.... hopefully it won't be too difficult

Yep and clean up all your temporary internet files also.

also check your HOSTS file to make sure www.google.com isn't being redirected somewhere

You have the QHOST virus. Go to McAfee's Website for removal instructions.

Panda's free Virus online tool will rid you of this mess, or at least tell you how to remove.

I read an article a week or so ago about the company that controls the .com, .org, .net assignments(?). Forget the company name, but you see it often in the small print on the bottom of some sites, Veri- something. I heard they had come up with a decision to redirect if there was some type error in the URL. Anyway, Google was the problem site mentioned in the article I read.

I would definetly check your HOST folder. I just had that same problem got taken over by hijakers. deleted everything out of the HOST folder and havent had any issues since.
