I am trying to access the user files under Documents and Settings on a mounted network drive. (Both OSs are Windows XP) I keep getting an ACCESS DENIED error.

I have the drive shared on the host computer, and it is mounted on the 2nd computer. I am trying to access the My Documents folder for one of the users but when I try to navigate to the folder I am told that the folder is unaccessable.

The root of the drive is shared, and i even went so far as to share every folder up to and including the my documents folder and still no luck.

Is this some kind of windows security feature that is not bypass-able? or am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is this a NTFS volume? When you connect to a shared folder on a NTFS volume, you get the most restrictive permissions possible - ie. if you are a member of a particular group which has NTFS read access to that folder, and your share permission gives you full control access, you only get read because it takes the more restrictive of the two. Check the permissions on the folder.

I just read a help file in Windows that said something to the effect of "The share option does not exist for Documents and Settings, Program Files and Windows system folders" So, I guess even though the option appears it is not a possibility.

Guess I will have to move the files somewhere else in order to share them.

Only that user and administrators will have access to that profile. You will need to access the file as an administrator, and then add yourself to the permissions if you like.
