Canon ZR50MC Digital Camcorder - $559.97 - Usually $800+!

decent deal. about $10 less that the CNET prices with shipping to IL. i have the zr10, one of the early models of this camera. besides the memory card and lens, what has been improved on this camera through out its many model updates in the past 3 years.

Prolly nothing really? Just a good price I thought. My bad if not.

That is an excellent price and it looks like it is from a reputable dealer. So many NYC "deals" are from less than trustworthy vendors that may try and sell you grey market items at worst, used (open box) items at best.

6th Ave looks like an excellent place to buy a digital camcorder, and I am in the market for a Canon ZR model so has anyone had any experience with 6ave.com?

i just purchased the ZR50 from 6ave on monday morning got shipped the same day i even called to get a tracking number they were very nice didnt really push the add on parts after saying i wasnt intersted the did keep pushing the issue very good rating at pricegrabber.com 5 stars all in all very good price and service i ended up paying $579 shipped Sweet!!!

I have read alot of reviews on this camera, and they say it is loud.
Have you noticed this to be true?

excellent sig on saturday night live Christopher Walken! We laughed
till we were silly! 😀

MiniDV tape runs extremely fast and the internal motor is the cause of the "noise". If you were trying to video a baby sleeping using the internal mike it might pick up the noise of the motor. Easy way to fix it is to use an external mike or get a 2.5mm plug from Rat Shack, but the wire off and plug the dummy into the socket to kill the sound totally.

Isn't noise from the camcorder motors inherent in most if not all consumer camcorders where the mike is part of the housing? An external mike such as a shot gun mike clipped on to the hotshoe which I believe uses induction for electric contact (special mike needed) is the way to go. Or like in the previous post, use the dummy plug and just go w/o sound or ad sound in post production...🙂

I think the CANON 45MC and 50MC are top rated video cameras. The only question I would have is how do they compare to a Sony or a JVC which would have a larger lens, one that lets in more light so it theoretically can take better low light video. Also I think there is a comparable Sony or JVC that has a larger LCD than the standard 2.5 that Canon and most all other digital cams use. With this in mind anyone have thoughts ?

I have a Canon ZR30MC and have never noticed any noise during playback. One upside to the smaller lens is the width of the camera is smaller, making it very convenient to carry. It fits nicely in a fanny pack and does not get in the way when I am coaching my kids in baseball and soccer or when I need my hands free and want to carry the camera. I would imagine the 22X optical zoom on the ZR50MC would be very cool compared to the 10X on my ZR30MC. The low light quality may be not be so great, but that is inherant in most 1CCD Mini-DV cameras. It's still 100 times better than my old 8mm though!!

The camera I really want is this one:

Panasonic NV-MX5000

I ordered one from 6ave.com. Got a tracking# the next day. $560 + $11 shipping to IL. Can't wait.

Was about to get the ZR45 but then read about the possible noise. I thought worse comes to worse, I'll use the external mike on the hotshoe. However, if I had known about the mini-plug for your own external mike I would've decided on the ZR45. Oh well.

VERY COOL CAMERA INDEED, except for the fact that it's PAL not NTSC. Is it available in NTSC?

I dunno, I just keep going back to that web site (www.dvnews.com) to read updates, salivate over the camera, and see if they are going to be selling mainstream in the good ole USA, dang Panasonic all the heck anyways.
