Canon XTi

I know it's a few years old and what is it worth? How much better than my S3IS? This would also be my first DSLR

i don't know about a ps3 AND cash...unless it has some really nice lenses.

If its your first DSLR, maybe even try an XT. Even cheaper. One of my 'noob' friends ended up getting an XSi, but honestly it is severe overkill for how little he uses it. A much cheaper XTi or even XT would have suited him fine. I did a quick search on ebay and XT bodies are going for like 250. Probably cheaper if you look around or check on craig's list

I was wrong it's the factory kit lens, so my PS3 and 100 bucks for this setup, would you do it? The guy claims the setup will not take better quality shots than my S3 which is discouraging.

in sheer IQ it'll destroy the S3, especially with a better lens than the standard kit lens. the new 18-55 IS is a much better lens than the older 18-55. low light capabilities will put the S3 to shame.

you won't get the zoom that the S3 has. you won't have video. it'll be a bit bigger.

i'd check on ebay to find out what a used one is worth, it may not be worth a ps3 + cash.

cheapest XTi I've seen is about 350 shipped from POTN. So I think for one with kit lens (if it's 18-55 non-IS - $60, 28-90 - $40) PS3 + a little bit cash sounds about even. I won't throw extra $100 though.

The XTi is a fine camera.
However, many XTi's had dark picture problems.
Mine did. Had to send it to Canon.
But the warranty is only 1 year, I think.
After that, it's $200 minimum.
Try out that camera.
Pics look bright in the viewfinder, but you can't tell until you download them to your computer.
Also, some XTi's did not come with the IS lens.

I thought it was only the XSi that started shipping with an IS lens?

Anyway...I've got an XTi now, and I really like it. Bought it as a 'replacement' of sorts for my older XT (8MP model). Both cameras use the same batteries and same vertical grip, and the XTi was the last rebel to use CF cards, which I have a ton of 🙂 It also has a better focusing system than the XT. I do sometimes miss the dedicated status display that the XT has, but I can deal with that. Guess you can't have everything.

Not worth a PS3 + Cash. Just the PS3, maybe...

You can get an XTi with 18-55mm Lens on eBay for <$325 in mint condition after MS Live Cashback
