Canon Xsi won't turn on without the battery grip.

Hey forum, I have a canon Xsi that I got recently. I've been using it with the battery grip and it's been working great. But when I removed the battery grip, took a battery out from it, and put it in the camera, now the camera won't turn on.

I put it back into the grip and put the grip in, and it turns on fine.

I tried both batteries and they both result in the camera not turning on. Is there some kind of setting in the camera that I need to change? I can't figure out why it won't turn on without the battery grip.

thanks!!

seems like the grip is making better contact with the battery and the terminals in the camera than just using the battery itself. try cleaning all the terminals?

can somenoe confirm that the battery door is the problem?

iirc, there's a sensor down there that tells the camera if it's open or not. would not be shocked if the camera is unresponsive with the battery door open, let alone missing.

Why not just buy a new one and replace? I've seen they are available while searching the interwebs for your answer. With the amount of time you've been waiting for a resolution, you could've had one delivered.

Me personally, I would check around that area of the camera to see if there is indeed some sort of sensor/plunger which let's the camera know if the lid is shut or not. Imagine a type of mechanism similar to your washer or dryer... you open the lid, the cycle stops.... same concept.

If you can find a plunger/sensor, try tricking it into thinking there is actually a door...

Yeah - the battery door is essential. In order to use the external battery grip, the door must be removed. When the grip is removed, the door must be replaced.
