Canon SD700 - How to utilize this camera to its fullest potential?

Nocturnal

Lifer
I often times shoot in manual mode and I adjust the ISO to compensate for light/dark and will use the flash when needed.

Is this the right way to use the SD700 camera?

I TRY to keep the ISO at ISO80; however, more often than not, lately my shots come out really blurry although I can't see it on the LCD.

Any tips or anything on how to properly use the manual mode of the SD700?

ISO 80 is your lowest setting, ISO 800 is your highest. What kind of photos are you trying to take, ones with lots of movement in low light? If that's the case then you need high ISO and as high a shutter speed as you can get.

I totally understand the ISO settings but rather, how do I make sure my pictures are going to come out clear as opposed to blurry using the proper ISO settings?

I am mainly trying to take pictures of still images such as computer parts, etc. so I can put them up on eBay. But even when I took a picture of my comptuer case it came out rather blurry. I know this camera is supposed to have built in IS but sometimes I don't think it works lol.

No Exif found here, sorry. Could you just paste it here? And yes, I see that there's a problem, but I can't tell what it is without more info. What sort of focus settings do you have on your camera? Could it be that you accidentally have it on manual focus instead of AF?

Normally how does one get the EXIF data to stick? If you right click, save as, save to desktop and then go to properties, the EXIF data should be there.

EXIF:

Shutter Speed 1/10 sec.
Focal Length 6mm
F-Number F/2.8
Explosure Time 1/10 sec.
Measuring Mode Pattern
Exposure Compensation 0 step

Okay, there ya go. Shutter Speed - 1/10 sec., were you using a tripod?

Edit: I know you have IS, but if it's handheld at 1/10 sec. with an ISO of 80 I'd think that would really be pushing it. Try it at 1/20 sec.

1/10 should be do-able with IS as long as that's the short end of the lens (which 5.8 mm is). the SD700 doesn't really have a manual mode, just control over ISO and white balance.

i'd say turn on the flash and make the camera stop down a bit. f/2.8 is going to be a little soft.

the exif data was in that link, browsers don't display it unless you've got a plug in.

The flash and stopping down should do it alright, but I got the impression he was wanting to see what it could do without using one.

To get the Exif data, I tried using Opanda's viewer, but it said it couldn't find it "in file form Temporary Internet Files". What plug-in are you using for Exif viewing?

In Opera I can right-click the image in the browser and choose image properties and exif data shows along with all the other stuff (res, bit-depth, etc)

i think i'm using FxIF, but i'm not seeing it in my list of add-ons.

of course, to make sure it is taking the sharpest picture, nocturnal should set the camera on something and use the self timer. you'll want to turn IS off as it can make a picture worse when the camera is sitting on an object.
