I'm looking to buy the Canon SD600 and it gets pretty good reviews from what i've seen. Do any of you own one and what are your opinions on the camera. Can get for under 300.

Is there something better in the 300-400 dollar range that i should at least check out?

I just bought this Olympus... I have pretty much always bought Canon in the past, but I needed something a bit more durable. It allows me to take photos underwater up to 10 feet, and is 'shock proof' up to 5 feet'. I like it so far, and have tested the underwater part succesfully. If you don't plan on using it underwater at all, then just go with the SD600.

Check out the Pentax A10. The image quality beats even the Canon S80, and you can pick one up for $275.

I wanted a compact camera to replace my somewhat bulky Canon A75. I started out looking at the Canon SD450, then realized that the newer version was the SD600 and was available at about the same price. However, the quality was nowhere near my A75's quality (just take a look at Steve's Digicams review of it). I gave up hope of finding a quality compact camera until a friend recommended the Nikon S6. Press release:

It's about $300 online. 3x optical zoom, 6 megapixels, huge screen, and wifi. If you want to save a few bucks get the S5, which has a smaller screen and no wifi. Here's a review:

Quality is excellent for the size and price. I'm ordering mine later this week :)

I have SD400 and I love it to death, I take it everywhere I go now. I've taken over 800 pictures with it, and thats mostly recently. I can't get enough of this thing.

Lack of viewfinder??? other than that the specs listed for sensitivity

SD630 = Sensitivity Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800
SD600 = Sensitivity Auto, High ISO Auto, ISO 80/100/200/400/800 equivalent

price difference is close to 50 bucks

edit : SD600 = 2.5 inch LCD
SD630 = 3.0 inch LCD

630 has no view finder.... AKA less battery life is mandatory in my opinion

Nikon s5's & S6's have been getting really really bad reviews on battery life from what I read. Just something to think about. Thanks for your help

i have the sd630. got it earlier this month for my italy trip. took 1600 pics alreayd. great camera.

when i ask ppl to take pic for me and my gf, they try to find the viewfinder, which is funny since they put their face onto the camera anyway seeing the LCD takes up practically the entire backside of the camera, i have to tell people to use the screen.

i love the camera. got it from dell for $304 after tax and shipped and used a cool AMEX 25 dollar gift certificate as well 640x480x30fps, i no longer need my DV Camcorder. the video function is great as well. i have a 2GB card and was able to take a lot of short clips (though it should be noted i had my laptop with me and i dump the photos in there every night)

battery life = so-so, but it can definitely last a day of crazy use like how i had used it. just charge it every night.

Got my SD600 for $255 shipped including tax from Dell. I love it - my old A80 had tons of shutter lag, and was just a little bit too big and bulky for what I wanted it for.
