Canon SD600 vs SD700 IS?

SD600 is $399.99 CDN
SD700 IS is $599.99 CDN

All I'm looking for is a small portable camera. I doubt I'd ever print larger than 4x6. I love how these cameras look and the reviews seem decent.

I have no photography skills, so do you think the image stabilization is worth an extra $200? I'm not really thinking so, but I'm here for your opinion.

What do you think?
 
wow, i'm really behind the times. still using one of the original digital elphs--s230.

i don't think you can go wrong with either one. on the topic of image stabilization...why not just get a mini tripod for $30? then again, i haven't read up on how IS works.

take a cheap SD memory card to bestbuy

stick it in sd600, take pic

stick it in sd700is, take pic

compare, pick better quality ftw!

I don't think IS is going to be that good, but if you have shakey hands...every little bit helps right? 😀
 
is is nothing to sneeze at. anyone thats had a digicam knows of the blurred pictures they sometimes take. or low light noise... is helps and can keep the shutter open longer for less noise in many situations.
 
I think SD 700 has some kind of defect Canon oversaw. It has something to do with the audio when recording video clips. Supposedly there is a persisten humming sound.

Can you explain why? Since I know very little about camera's, this statement doesn't mean that much to me 😱
 
generally the smaller the sensor the the smaller each pixel site is, less light = less sensitivity=more noise. making bigger sensors is expensive, so cramming more in is not always the best. thats not saying that a low mega pixel cam is going to be better since thats not the only part of the equation. but its one reason why digital slrs are so expensive, they can have sensors as large as the film they replace, thats prettybig.
 
If you're never going to print bigger than 4x6's and don't know anything about cameras then an SD400 would still be MORE than enough for you..
