I've never been a fan of the S40/S50/S60 line.

Not that much smaller and a lot worse picture quality than the "G" line. Not a signifant number of extra features for the money over the "A" line. A lot bigger than the "elph" line. What's the need for it?

If you want the best quality go with the "G".
You want uncompromised size go with the Elph.
You want value go with the "A".

There's no need for the S line.

That's just me though.

that does make sense, i could never figure out where all there models belonged either

sx0 will fit in your pocket - G or A will not. Sx00 does not have manual controls. it was a simple decision for me - i needed something with manual controls that would also fit in my shorts pocket while backpacking. the sx0 line also has higher resolution when compared to similar era A series cameras.

and the Sx0 does not have much worse picture quality than the G series - at least not my s50.

edit - forgot about the 28mm wide angle lens on the s60/70. you cant get that on the a or g without an add-on.
