canon s5 is or panasonic dmc-fz18

I'm debating between these two cameras. The canon has nice lens, hot shoe but no raw. The panasonic has 18x zoom and raw. Any comment/input is appreciated.

I decided to get the Pan fz18 @ vanns $299 +FS. I liked that the fz18 has the 28mm wide angle lens and longer 18x zoom vs S5 35mm and 12x zoom. the canon s5 articulating lcd screen is very nice for occasional overhead / under pic.

Unlike the Panasonic, the S5 records in stereo and you can zoom while filming. Though you may not care about video capability. Also the Canon runs on removable AAs, not lithium ion.

Also, in case you haven't seen it, looky here to compare.

the pan seems like a better camera on paper. dpreview has always claimed that in their opinion, panasonic's IS is better than canon's. Image quality is a toss up. I have the S3 and I love the pics it produces, but that doesnt mean the FZ18 will produce worse quality pics.

not the fz18, but look here and draw your own conclusions

One thing I LOVE about the S3 which the S5 also has is the articulating LCD. It has helped me get a lot of cool looking ground level shots
