Canon S30/S40 question

Self-timer pics...they keep on coming out blurry for me. What settings do I need to make on the camera to take perfect self-timer pics? Thanks!

i leave the camera on a table or a desk and then i set the self-timer to 10s. i hold perfectly still before and after the flash goes off.
