Canon S200 vs. S230... what are the differences besides price, digital zoom and resolution?

Buying a digital camera for my brother and was wondering what you guys would do. Is the price difference between the S200 and S230 worth it? I'm going to take advantage of the Dell deal with the 10% off coupon. Any other deals you guys know of or would like to recommend?

S200 for $270 or S230 for $360.
Personally the resolution is a good draw, digital zoom means nothing to me and that's a pretty large price difference between the two generations.

Let me know!

s200 only records 30 seconds at 320x240 i believe.
s230 records 30 seconds of 640x480(very nice, high quality) and 3 mins at 320x240

S200 only has 3 point AI AF, S230 has 9point AIAF

All I can think of right now

May want to consider the S30 too, has better optical zoom, more advanced features, better pics than both of em, but is similar with the 3point aiaf and 30 second movies, and it also has a mic for playback sound that the s200/s230 doesnt have..also TONS of other features they dont have, pretty compact too. S30 has a nicer(bigger) LCD screen as well. It's the best rounded camera in my opinion, from your link, it got the best reviews out of all the canon cams.

Damn furor...now you make me regret getting the S230! :p There's also a $35 off $300 purchase for Dell Home that can still be used. Add that to bring it down to $325 :)

hehe, s230 is a good camera, you shouldn't regret it, unless you're not happy with it! :) the movies are awesome, I wish the s30 had the same movie ability as the s230, my brother has an s230, I have two s30's..we compare pictures and the difference is in the details and color..the s30 is just superior..s230 is basically a point and shoot camera, s30 is a mini professional one, but also works as a point and shoot. I hate to say it though, I love the movie mode on the s230...the quality is great, even at 320x240..you can enlarge it above 640x480 and it still looks good!

Edit: oh yeah, for the original post..the s230 is probably a little bit heavier than the s200..the s230 is pretty heavy for being so small..it's almost the exact same weight as an s30, which is bigger(though not by too much)

i have the S200 camera and i absolutely love it. the pictures are crisp and the video capture feature is good in well lit conditions.
you really cant go wrong with either one of the cameras. one more thing, the S230 is a third larger also. try this site if you are still undecided.

S230 is a third larger? I was under the impression that it basically came from the same mold as the S200. Any larger and it would fall within the S30 category?

I tried finding the coupon mentioned but I think it's a private/personal coupon.. I see a $25 off $550.

I have an S30 (which I love) but if I were buying today, I would get the S230.

It is quite a bit smaller than the S30.

Also, the S230 takes THREE MINUTE movie clips WITH sound.

Damn there's a $40 off coupon now available. Could have saved an extra $10. You think Dell would let me apply it and take off the 10%? Is it even worth the hassle?

There's a $40 coupon but no more 10% off, unless you have the code. I guess you could try adding it to your cart and then applying a 10% coupon code.
