Sorry but I've seen cheaper everywhere.

Best Stop Digital - $372
Technet America - $373
CompDirect - $375
theweb-shop - $375
Beach Camera - $389
MPSuperstore - $389
BuyDig - $393
Digital Dog - $397
The Camera Zone - $397

Remember, this camera (unlike the DC280) has good quality but doesn't come with NiMH batteries and a charger. So when that $10+ lithium ion battery is gone be prepared to bust out the wallet.

The extra battery kit is VERY well worth the extra hundred bux. Plus, they don't recommend flashing the BIOS without the AC adapter, which is ONLY in the battery kit (you need to flash a new BIOS to upgrade some bugs in the cam w/ those IBM MicroDrive thingies).

including the battery pack in the camera package probably would have made the package more expensive...

i guess it's just marketing schemes, they make you think that you are getting a good deal on the camera, but you'd need to shell out more cash for an essential add-on.

but this is a GREAT camera though! i have had it for a month (bought the battery pack too), and it's been awesome!! I am a real newbie when it comes to photography, so I wasnt looking for a camera that offered all kinds of manual operations and tweaks.. This Canon camera is easy to operate, and offers some manual operations too.

I got it from onvia with pointclick and $25 off coupon by the way. They had it listed for cheaper back then, about $20 bucks cheaper. I also got the case from onvia, and got the battery pack along with an extra battery from buy.com.

I meant they should have included the battery charger kit with the camera, at that cost. Or maybe make the kit $50. $100 retail is NUTS. Could have at least included TWO batteries instead. Buy.com has it for $70, which makes it a little better.

I agree, the camera takes EXCELLENT photo's. I got some printed by shutterfly, and amazing (4x6, i will try a 8x10 of my future viper later :)). ONe thing that seemed to be defective was the viewfinder wasn't "sealed" so to speak, dust got in there quite easily.. and I couldn't get it out. The 2x optical is also weak :(
