Canon Price Drop.

Could it be that Canon is feeling the heat from the competitors (Nikon/Sony sesnor, and Tamron/Sigma lenses) so they are starting a price war?

Canon price drop from $40-$1000 on 24 red ring lenses and extenders.

Perhaps this will drive the used market down a bit more so I can get the 85L II f/1.2 and perhaps the 300L f/2.8 or 400L f/2.8, or the Sigma 120-300 sport to play around with.

Woho... I can't afford those.

On the other hand, I found a rumor about a new pancake lens on that site. The only pancake lens is the 40mm now, but rumor is that a 28mm is going to be announced with the 7Dii. Very interested... Hope the price is similar.

More like currency exchange rate fluctuations; the yen has fallen a lot against the US dollar since 2013.

I hope it is not due to the yen exchange rate, because the price drop of 4-10% is insignificant compare to the change in yen to USD of 20-25%. The only lens that see a large price drop is the Canon 24-70L f/4 that droped from $1499 to the new price of $999 (still a lame duck IMO, because it isn't significantly lighter and only sharper than the 24-105L at the edges of the wide end).

Well, they tend to lag both increases and decreases in exchange rates. And yeah not sure what the point of the 24-70L at $1499 is. The price drop may be to clear inventory or to fight back against Sony's A7.

Also, some of these lenses I coulda sworn were cheaper several years ago. Maybe they raised prices back then and now are giving up a portion of that increase.
