No, that can easily be solved by a card reader if it is that big a deal to you. But I would go with the S2 IS, especially if you are going to do any kind of Macro work, 0cm Focal range, It doesnt get any closer than that 😛

Actually the leica lens are just designed by leica but they are still manufactured by panasonic.

Welp, I ended up getting the FZ20. I had to pull the trigger this evening as I had a BIG coupon/certificate expiring and the purchase place was out of the S2, with no promise date any time soon. Kinda sucked as the S2 seems to be in stock everywhere ... else.

Either way, I don't think I'll be too disappointed.

Doubt it, I have seen more people buy Panasonic cameras than canon, and I work for Panasonic. People seem to like the quality of Panasonic more.

Yea lol, I will admit I am a Canon Fanboy, but for good reason, out of all the cameras I have ever used I have NEVER been disapointed with ANY canon product!

i got that panasonics little baby brother, dmc-fz1(v2) and have been very pleased

based on the quality of my fz1, I'd guess it would be hard to be disappointed with the fz5
but if money isn't an issue (and you don't think the canon is butt-ugly) -- you may as well get the canon, since you're spending the big bucks anyway

but you might want to look at the fz10 or fz20, too
 
I'm also a Canon fanboy, however I will always recommend the better product regardless of my fanboy loyalty.

One of my friends parents bought a Panasonic digicam and they love it.

Why 2 threads? Anyways, my opinion doesn't change. Although the S2 is an awsome camera, the extra cost is not justifiable. Get the panasonic and use the money saved for accessories.

btw, your poll isn't going to tell you anything as the majority of people who voted havn't used both cameras.
 
I also went with the S2 IS. It just fit my hands better, and I hate the proprietary battery that the Lumix uses. I got 8 Energizer 2500 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries, and a 15 minute charger for $16 at Walmart. When I was looking, I couldn't find the battery for the panny for under $40. There were plenty of knock off makers online though, for around $34, but I learn my lesson with knock offs with my camcorder.
