EDIT I paid $300 shipped 2nd way w/free 256MB CF card for my 5MP A95; this is a good deal

how'd you pay only $300?

nice deal.. but dell keeps messign with you...

so it's this whole deal then +tax and then free shipping becomes 50% of shipping price because the "filler" is under $49 .

in any case.. for me the final price of the camera with a Kingston
256 MB SD Card came out to be $432

still a great deal on a great camera

he paid $300 for the A95.

The Casio Exilim Z750 is a MUCH hotter deal; use the 15% off coupon code plus the $60 off to get it down to about $320.

That's not true; you can find the coupon code and apply it in your cart. I did it with the Casio. Unfortunately, I got it when Dell raised the price up to $449 without coupons; it used to be $415 without copons.

Ooh ouch. I stand corrected. Well, that makes the Casio the obvious choice now! Oh plus, Dell didn't even have the SD400 in stock anyway.

Is the SD500 still the king of the hill with respect to ultra-compact point and shoots? Any other suggestions worth checking out?

depends on your definition of ultra-compact. I got the SD300, tax push it to $289 for me. don't need 7 megapix in a point and click, and sure didn't need the extra weight and size that the SD500 brings.

If you don't mind less megapixels try the sd300.

I went ahead and got the sd300 for $266 + tax. 4mp is good enough for a point and shoot for me

Is there any other difference between a Powershopt S300 and SD300 than the kind of card and weight/size?

Do any of these come with stabilizers?

no stabilizers in any of these compact SD or S models.

With only a 3x zoom, its not really needed IMHO...for night shots, any decent person will use a tripod....it beats the best image stabilizer hands down for quality....

Far as S300 vs SD300...they're completely different cameras.

main differences:
S300 is 2.1mp, uses CF cards, uptp 30 second 320x240 video clip, camera is almost 5 yrs old.
SD300 is 4mp, uses SD cards, unlimited video (with UltraII or Extreme card), camera is less than 2 yrs old.

I have a S300 camera works GREAT, but I crave higher resolution...... if ya wanna buy it from me, drop me a PM with an offer.... I have two CF cards, 2 batteriees, camera is near mind condition, canon case, original box......
