I never questioned whether the Sony was a better camera...what I stated was that the Canon was simply a more fun camera to use. If you can find the Sony for $450, then I would say that is an an excellent deal...if you want a Sony 717. While you are at it, add the cost of 256 MB of Memory $tick and an extra battery. I still stand on my comment that the Canon with IS lens is much more likely to produce a usable picture, expecially at full telephoto. When you can shoot a 380mm equivalent, hand held at 1/30 of a second, that has real value. Furthermore, the reach of Canon's 10X lens tops the Sony's 5X easily.

BTW, if you want to play the "for just a $100 more" game, look at the Nikon 8700 which can be had for $550 AR. With its 8X zoom and 8MP res plus features that Sony doesn't even understand and you have to ask the question, why would anyone buy the 717 now...unless it was the most they can spend or they just had to have it.

Well, I tried to pricematch to Staples.com. All was going well, until the woman said that she'd have to send it to "corporate" and that they'd call me back in the morning. This morning they called and said they couldn't pricematch to AM PhotoWorld because AM PhotoWorld is not an authorized dealer. :-(

So, no camera for me, yet.
