Kudo's to aphexII for PM'ing me this deal since he knows I've wanted this digicam for a while.

As most of you will recall this was a very popular deal that ub4me originally posted in this thread for $249.98 + tax from OfficeMax.com. Unfortunately OM stopped carrying this digicam on their website and not everyone was successful in getting OM B&M to accept the OM $50 off $250 coupon. As you can tell this deal was quite hot because the thread reached almost 100 posts.

$299.00 Canon PowerShot A40
-10% off coupon (stackable)
-$15 off coupon (stackable)
-2% eBates.com
-FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING (on orders $25 and over)
===================================================
$249

Dell does not charge sales tax in most states, my state (Oregon) has zero sales tax so we never get charged :D

This digicam is comparable to the new Canon PowerShot S200 and S330 but IMHO it's a better design. It's not as compact but I feel it's the perfect size for a digicam. I tested one out at a OfficeMax B&M and liked it a lot, from the picture quality to features to outside dimensions, this digicam has it all. Plus it takes CF instead of SM, MMC, or SD which is a plus.

If you're a good Hot Dealer you'll do your research and read as many reviews to see if this is the right digicam for you, well here you go:

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS
imaging-resource.com (with sample pictures)
dcresource.com (with sample pictures)
steves-digicams.com (with sample pictures)
dpreview.com (97 owner's ratings almost 5 out of 5 stars in every category)

CONSUMER REVIEWS
ePinions.com (100% recommended by 8 reviewers)
Amazon.com (4.8 out of 5 stars with 39 customer reviews)
CNET.com (8 out of 10 stars with 95% positive reviews)

The $15 off $200 coupon expires TODAY and the 10% off coupon expires 8/2/2002.

7/24 UPDATE: The Canon PowerShot A40 is BACK IN STOCK on OfficeMax.com and there's a $50 off $250 coupon which doesn't expire until 8/4/2002. Although it says for first time customers only, I was able to make it to the final page in checkout and the coupon did appear.

So Rossman, did you buy it? I've had mine a month (from Crutchfield) and it's great.

No. I'm debating whether I'm going to buy it or not. It would be financially irresponsible but that hasn't stopped me before. My current Fuji Finepix 1400 works great but I want a new toy.

Just thought I'd let everyone know what a great deal this is on one of the best entry level digicams out there.

From what you know, what are the major gripes about this digicam? Like I said in my first post I like the size, the features are well rounded, good quality pictures, USB, takes CF, etc.

Oh and thanks, I like posts which are well formatted with all the info including reviews.

Let me know if it works for you.

Its $259 at Royal Camera here, can we PM at any B&M and use any coupons to make this a sweeter deal?

I'm definitly new to all these deals that everyone seems so good at making, so some help would be greatly appreciated.

If you get a clueless Staples employee you might get away with using a $30 off $150 or $40 off $200 coupon AND PM'ing but I highly doubt that would work.

Rossman. Nice to see you being financially responsible. I wish I was. Anyway, I don't have a single gripe about the camera. The weight is just right for me, I like the "feel" of actually holding a camera with a little weight. It probably weighs a pound with batteries. Some of these other digicams seem weightless. Also, this camera is great with the NiMH batteries. I get around 200 shots with a set of 4 and my LCD is always on. I also like being able to change the ISO from 50 to 400. The Fuji 2600 and 2800 which I considered are stuck at ISO 100. I have experimented with long exposure night shots and I am amazed at this camera. I also like the quality of the shots. I can't imagine a 2 MP camera with better resolution. Good post Rossman for the others that will want to get this camera.

esquared - Well after getting buying a 2002 Honda Accord SE and getting myself into $17,244 I find myself buying less toys which is good. I still might buy this simply because it's almost the PERFECT digicam for me. I like the Fuji 2600 and Nikon 775 but they're not as good as the Canon PowerShot A40 is. The Canon PowerShot S200 is great but it's TINY and costs more, I don't need that much portability. I also like to have some weight to the camera, it contributes to overall experience of snapping some pictures. It's like you want a keyboard which has good feedback without being too mushy or clickity clackity.

lotust - I'm the wrong person to ask when it comes to reasoning on a Hot Deal but you guys already know that.

:D

The G2 is a great camera. A co-worker got this from Dell a couple months ago for 659 shipped but:

lotust- "the G2 is $704 shipped.. Im gonna wake my girlfriend up and make her fill out a dell credit app "

Oh man, there's going to be hell to pay.

Thank you for the find! I scored one from OM when the deal was alive. This camera is worth every penny. Pound for pound, nothing else comes close. Picture quality rocks at 1600x1200, the 3x digital zoom is a godsend, and the movie mode (WITH sound!) is fun to play with.

i was going to get it... but i saw the "ships in 1-2 weeks" and it made me sad :( my friend has it, he loves it! just make sure to pick up some high quality NiMH batteries while you're at it (needs 4 i believe). I think his only gripe is that it does not come with an AC adapter (or uses battery when plugged into the USB port) when u need to transfer stuff off the camera to the computer, but then again, i guess that's what my Dazzle 6-in-1 for $17 is for...

Unfortunately, Staples doesn't carry Canon digital cameras.

I just got this camera from office max B&M on the $50 coupon deal. My brother took the camera to Joiliet today for the Nascar qualifying and I will post some sample pics when he gets home in a few hours:)
