You can order the S45 from fell for $414 shipped today only (1/23). There is 10% off all stuff and another 35 off 400 that can be found on the fat lady website. Ground shipping is free. The S45 has 4 MP versus the 3 MP of the s30 and it also has 3 minutes of recording time for video.

The A40 seems like a good price.

HAHA...I think everyone and their Mom on Anandtech has this now b/c of you. Definately worth anything under $200.

Damn. I've been hoping to see this for cheap at BestBuy. I have gift cards galore to use there, but their prices are lousy. This seems pretty cool. Trying to think of who could get it for me.

I bought one...

aafes is a pretty good place. i wonder if best buy pricematches military stores..

I had the A40 then I sold the A40 in favor of the S30 which actually never even came through and now I'm back on the A40 but I'll probably give the A40 as a gift or sell it and buy the VERY VERY UNDERRATED Olympus C-4000.

yes the S45 is a more technologically advanced camera than that S30. however the S30 offers 90% of the resolution of the S45 and uses very similar physical components that determine picture quality (ie: lens, size) and so for some people, 90% of the resolution for $65 is worth buying.

Speaking as a military dependent, if you CAN get someone to get this for you, don't flaunt it, because the person WOULD be breaking regulations and, not that I think they'd throw you in jail, since people do this all the time at Exchanges...but it's just widely regarded that you don't buy stuff for non-qualified people at NEXs, MCCXs, or BX/PXs (I don't think it's a law, just a very strong 'no-no'). I'm not discouraging anybody, but you (and more importantly, the person you get to buy it for you) can get in trouble in the very very minute chance you get caught.

It's usually not worth it though unless it's a high-ticket item...like a TV/Stereo/Appliance. That's what the rule is in place for - since if Circuit City is charging 1999.99 and the Exchange is charging 1999.99, the exchange is cheaper because you don't pay sales tax regardless of where you live, domestically or internationally.

But the s45 uses a newer processor and is easier on the batteries than the s30. The s30 has only 75% of the resolution of the s45. I would definitly go with the s45 seeing as I got it for $349 to my door.

Strange, at the Pearl Harbor exchange they openly promote guests to come in and spend with members. I guess when you have a 350,000 square foot 50 million dollar facility you need to get as much sales as possible.

It is quite illegal, I got busted when I was 7 for buying a tshirt for some other kid.

Btw, I don't know where you guys are getting these percentages from.

The s30 is 3.2 mp vs the 3.9mp (effective) resolution of the S45.

That is a .7mp difference and you will not notice the difference in 8x10 prints and under. Of course, the S45 will give you more room to crop. But then again, the S30 suffers from less noise than the S45.

Well ... lot of people got the S45 from Dell for the price range ( 349 - 449) , using catalog coupons received by mail.
Like me for ex : - Dell had this promotion of 10 % on all S&P .. so the price of s45 was .. 499 - 49.99 and some had 35 off 400 $ coupon and some had 100$ off $400 coupon ... which brought the S45 price to the above mentioned range... and ofcourse for Home Division , there was no tax and free shipping .:)
