I recently ordered the Canon MP780, but this is cheaper and newer (I think), but without the fax. Has gotten solid reviews too.

Only question is can this use generic carts??

I believe the problem is that it uses Canon's new ink catridges that have a chip in them and haven't been copied genericwise yet.

They can be refilled though and bulk ink is very cheap.
