Canon Pixma ip6000D $100 at Staples, One day only

Great on photos, so so on text.
Almost as fast as ip4000.

If you want a 6 color printer this is it. Takes the older carts for which there are generics or refills.

Somewhere along here they are going to discount the i9900...yum yum.

i had the 3000.... I pulled the trigger on this one to replace it. Most of the cartridges are compatible (and i believe that is true for the 4000 as well)

that should hold me over until the 8000 to 9000 series goes on clearance! 🙂

dont feel bad, if you plan to mod your ip4000 it can print on discs and the ip6000d cant.

I dont know the diff between the ip6000d or the ip6000, but i do know that the 6000 version is modable according to this http://www.pixma.web1000.com/Pixma345/345.html

I might have to buy this. My iP4000 is acting really strangely. Colors are completely wrong -- looks like a faded photograph. Tried different papers, different settings, and mucking around in Photoshop, but it still won't reproduce what's on-screen. Used to be fine, now something is wrong. 🙁

I don't know enough about the ip6000D, but just glancing at the staples page I can see that the ip5000 has a higher dpi, also has 1 pico liter droplets...having said that pcmagazine apparently found that the ip4000 is "better" at photo's than the ip5000.

If your going to spend that much you should just get the IP5200 from CompUSA for $129 it has 3600 nozzles and is probably the best photo printer in it's class.

The iP5200 is another of Canon's 5-color printers that leaves me wondering why I own and use the 8-color i9900. When I see just how good the photo prints look when using only the three primary colors (cyan, magenta and yellow), I don't know why I need those other ink colors, or the added expense. With the 1-picoliter size ink droplets the prints are virtually grainless.

I don't want to spend more than I have to, however the impression I get from reading numerous threads on AT is that I should avoid the 4200/5200 completely. I'm definitely worried about ink refill costs.

Anyway it appears that my Fry's has the ip4000 available for $79.99, so I might get that if Staples doesn't have any left (they were going for $99.99 - $30 rebate).

Let me be very clear the Canon IP5200 is a awesome photo printer that rivals the IP8500. The only negative to it is that it has the new NAZI carts. You can still refill the Canon carts and the printer runs just fine. There are no other $100+ printers that offers 3600 nozzles and 1 picoliter ink drop size.

When the NAZI technology is figured out the 5200 is going to be the printer to own.

I agree that it shouldn't be a question of if, but when they'll get around to "bootleg" the ink of the newer canon's. But I was under the impression that you cannot dissassemble the new ink carts(of the current time) for refilling or it would detect it and send some crap saying that the warranty will be void.

I have the ip4000, the color prints are beautiful and its fast (much faster thant the ip6000D).
Also, if you tend to do 25% or more non photo/color prints, the ip6000D will be much less cost effective as to print plain text in black it also uses some of the non-black inks. The ip4000 has a large cheaper black ink tank for text printing.

Where do you get refill ink for the 4200/5200 style carts? Is the refill ink the new formula (that comes in the carts), or are you referring to putting the old style ink in the new carts?

OTOH, Canon really screwed our pooch with their new carts. Less ink and $12-15 a cartridge.

Some on the nifty forum are using the same bulk ink that is for the bci-6 for the cli-8. Apparrently the differences between chromalife100 and chromaPlus is not much.

but their reseller rating is really bad.


Also it should be noted that a couple users have tried the cli-8 tanks in the IP4000 and it worked well.

Agian the ink is still 13ml per color cart only the black changed. From 27ml to 26ml, not a big drop. The price did go up though from $12 to $14 color and $12 to $16 for the black.

The NAZI chip does suck though.
