Canon Pixma iP3000 users: What is the "inner cover" for?

If you open the front cover of the printer there's another door next to the buttons that you can swing down. It's labeled "inner cover" in the manual but I can't find an explanation of what this is for.

Anyone know?

Possibly for the CD/DVD print function that Canon left out in the US versions?

Maybe, it won't print if the inner cover is open though.

Do not have a clue.

BUT if you raise the lid just on top of the 'inner cover' 1st, look down inside and then lower the 'inner cover, you will see a long something(?) raise UP.

Maybe helps clear a paper jam??

Anyway, this is the best inkjet we've ever had. It prints glossy pics BETTER or as good as any commerical place I've used.

Yes it is related to the CD priting feature that is already in the U-Rope-Ian versions of the Pixma line. The CD printing function should be availabe here when the updated Pixmas arrive this summer. For now you'll just have to resign yourself to being mocked by vestiges of what could have been...

Probably late August or early September: that's the usual time line for Canon's new printer models.
