Hi all....I just got a Canon MP780 printer which I installed onto my computer. I used the drivers from the disk included from the printer. Prior to that I had a HP 1100 Business Inkjet on my system. When I try to print the computer resets itself. I cannot figure out what is causing this, I have never had a printer problem like this before. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Since no one else is responding I will hazard some advice.

But sounds like you have some sort of bad install or conflict.

So I would do a complete uninstall--follow Canon instructions--if its anything like my MP730, you have to uninstall the MPtoolbox first.------go to printers in control panel and make sure the MP780 is gone as well as any entries for the HP1100. Then go to windows explorer and make sure all created MP780 directories are gone-------while you are at it, make sure ALL the old HP1100 stuff is gone also.

Then download a good registry cleaner-----I recommend regseeker---which is free and run it. Which
should get rid of old printer registry entries and back up the registry as well. Then reboot.

Then reinstall the MP780 per instructions. And hopefully you should have a working MP780.

Failing that------get on the phone to Canon and report the problem----since you are in warranty Canon should help you straighten that problem out for free.-----its also remotely possible that your driver cd is corrupted so a download from the Canon Website may be needed.

Hope that helps------and by the way------the MP780 is a great printer in MHO.

There is a driver cleaning program out there that is supposed to take care of stuff left over from driver installs. It is particularly for nVidia and ATI driver cleaning but has been expanded to handle others. You can check on the HP site to see if they have a manual cleaning procedure (a list of registry entries and files that need to be removed or edited) for that unit or in general.
. HP was known for scanner drivers that didn't play well with others. IDK how their stuff is now, but big, arrogant companies tend not to put a lot of effort into cleaning up their messes until someone rubs their nose in it.

Once you've got the old driver sludge cleaned out, uninstall and reinstall the Canon drivers (download and install the latest available version) by the book..

Make sure you are using a USB 2.0 connection. When I used a slower USB 1.1 port, mine did the same thing. When I switched to 2.0, it worked fine.

Good post Pauli.-----another good thing to check.

If Pauli is correct, also make sure you are using a USB-2 cable also.------but I am almost 100% sure the MP780 is a usb 2.0 only interface.

And for what is worth, I had a friend who was using a usb-1.1 device and a usb-2.0 cable who experienced problems only corrected when he used a usb-1.1 cable.

happy new year all
i have the mp780 for a funny reason probably because i installed a connectix quick cam with user made drivers otherwise wouldnt work under win xp i have the canon connected nad every time windows reports that it could work faster on a usb2 connection since the istallastion of the camera now thinks and uses them as usb1 and every time i print resets my printer all other devices work normaly.
