Well, you've got the actual camera (even if you got it off eBay). I'd say that entitles you to claim ownership. I think that this program is why broken Canon cameras have become harder to find or more expensive to buy on eBay.

BTW, Canon cameras do have serial numbers on them. They also have a tendency to be in places where they get rubbed off easily.
